Purpose and Scope 

The Manufacturing Engineering Lead applies technical knowledge and expertise to identify and develop solutions to optimize processes. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role collaborates with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality to support the plant in achieving its performance goals.  

 

Responsibilities  

  • Supports safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets by identifying and implementing continuous improvement projects to reduce equipment downtime, increase productivity, reduce perishable tooling costs, and reduce scrap, aligning with yearly plant metrics.
  • As project manager, leads continuous improvement efforts as assigned.
  • Mentors and aids engineering team members in problem-solving and corrective action for all manufacturing processes as needed. Shares and documents lessons learned with Engineering team members. 
  • Creates and improves documentation used in production and maintenance for all equipment. This includes work instructions, tooling sheets, troubleshooting guides, and other relevant documents. 
  • Supports the operations team in solving production problems as needed.  
  • Supports the maintenance team on machine repairs as needed.  Contributes to the Plant's goal of reducing environmental impact annually.  

 

Technical/Functional skills:  

  • Demonstrated project management skills. 
  • Experience working in a Lean Manufacturing environment.
  • Strong data analysis skills using Minitab or JMP to perform process capability studies and to drive continuous process improvements. 
  • Ability to do problem solving using various methods such as 5-Why, Fishbone diagrams, DMAIC, etc. to determine Root Cause and implement corrective actions. 
  • Strong Knowledge/Interpretation of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T)   
  • Demonstrated experience optimizing CNC machining processes by reducing cycle times, increasing machine uptime, and lowering cutting tool costs. 
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks packages. 
  • Experience with Fusion 360 or other CNC CAM software packages 
  • Ability to read, edit, and create G and M code programs.  
  • Demonstrated computer skills must include Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project. 
  • High attention to detail and self-motivation skills. 
  • Possess strong decision-making skills. 
  • Experience using calipers, indicators, and other basic measuring equipment. 
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with peers, managers, and the shop floor workforce. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Associate’s degree in engineering AND four years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering AND two years of experience in a manufacturing environment

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Associate’s degree in engineering AND nine years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in a manufacturing environment.

OR

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering AND seven years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in a manufacturing environment.

OR

  • Master's degree in engineering AND five years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
