Purpose
This position is responsible for the direct supervision, including the scheduling, planning, coordinating, executing, directing, training, disciplining, and improving of all the departments that comprise Shop Services, including Equipment Rebuild, Weld Shop, Utility Crew, Machine Shop, Die Shop, and Carpenter Shop. Required to work overtime or weekends as per business needs.
Responsibilities
- Safety and Environmental - Maintain a safe and environmentally correct workplace by enforcing the company and plant safety and environmental rules and policies, ensuring that associates are wearing the required personal protective equipment at all times, providing prompt and clear communications, providing training as needed and required, performing regular workplace audits and involving all employees.
- Will be the first responder to all environmental incidents in Shop Services, providing immediate supervision and contacting the required personnel in a timely manner while filling out the appropriate reports. Will also perform investigations for safety incidents and near-miss incidents.
- Supervision / Leadership - Provide direct and indirect supervision and leadership to any or all the departments in Shop Services. This includes planning, scheduling, and executing standard and non-standard work on any shift. Effective use of relevant information systems to improve the completion of scheduled and unscheduled jobs is required. This includes, but is not limited to, Maximo, Metallus Drawing Systems, and Microsoft Office products.
- Communications - Develop a good relationship with maintenance supervision, maintenance schedulers, and maintenance planners to promote timely and clear communications regarding equipment issues.
- Communication may relate to breakdowns, planned downturn work, rush jobs, or regularly planned work. Communication within Shop Services is also critical. As all shops are intertwined, communication for jobs spanning multiple shops is critical to achieving turn-around time and on-time delivery to the plants.
- Employee Development and Training - Develop and accurately and objectively evaluate apprentices. Continually develop all employees by providing new and additional training as needed, by having regular communications with all, by consistently enforcing company and plant rules, and reporting and addressing all issues in a timely manner. Cross-train associates as needed to address weaknesses or pending vacancies.
- Cost - Effectively control cost by reviewing spending reports, effectively scheduling overtime to cover openings or man scheduled jobs. Submit cost savings ideas for repetitive jobs and work to reduce the overall cost to Shop Services Customers.
- Actively participates in emergency, frequent, and periodic outages (planned and unplanned) as a technical resource or leader of a group of technical resources.
Technical Skills
- Blueprint / engineering drawing reading
- Weld inspection
- Knowledge of weld symbols and interpretation
Minimum Qualifications
- High School or equivalent with at least 7 years of experience in industrial maintenance, welding, or related
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in mechanical technology or related with at least 4 years of experience in industrial maintenance, welding, autoCAD, machining, or related
- Bachelor degree in industrial / mechanical engineering or related with at least 2 years of experience in industrial maintenance, welding, autoCAD, machining, or related
