Purpose
The Technical Service Engineer II/Lead leads efforts in two key focus areas for the Metallus Incorporated, quality of our products and service to our customers, by providing technical service geared at resolving customer issues and developing solutions for improved service. Technical service responsibilities include technical interaction with the customer, providing timely resolution of complaints, seeking out new opportunities and assuring Metallus product meets our customer’s needs. This role may travel 25% of the time.
Responsibilities

Solves technical problems with timely resolution of material claims and complaints and ensures complete documentation into our Global Quality Tracking System.

Works together with Manufacturing, Met QA, Supply Chain, and Sales to serve as the facilitator of corrective action responses to customer claims.

Manages communication from the front-end group back to the appropriate mill-based contact to drive improved adherence to customer specifications.

Leverages relationships with manufacturing, supply chain and sales/marketing to develop foundational knowledge of the technical requirements for customer products and processes.

Participates in non-claim related customer calls, and communication of technical developments in partnership with the sales and application development engineers.
Technical/Functional Skills

Intermediate knowledge of ferrous metallurgy, steel making and processing

Intermediate knowledge of Metallus manufacturing facilities and capabilities

Strong communication skills applied toward managing cross-functional activities to serve customers

Demonstrated ability to interface with customers, peers and associates

Requires computer skills in Microsoft and Metallus systems and databases

Ability to multitask and manage numerous claims/issues

Ability to facilitate meetings and present results to groups of associates

Intermediate metallurgical knowledge of heat treat, forming processes and microstructures
Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in material science or related engineering field with 2 years of experience in technical service, quality, manufacturing, or product development
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in material science or related engineering field with 7 years of experience in technical service, quality, manufacturing, or product development; OR

Master's degree in material science or related engineering field with 5 years of experience in technical service, quality, manufacturing, or product development
