Purpose & Scope:
To provide planning, coordination, and scheduling of maintenance and reliability of all production and support equipment within the Faircrest Steel Making Department. This position will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance and reliability efforts though a systematic planning and scheduling process. As well as equipment selection, equipment installation, training, and maintenance and reliability of all equipment associated with the FSP Steel Making Department. This position will support designing a maintenance system to ensure the reliable start-up and operation of all steel making assets. Ensure effectiveness of maintenance and reliability efforts by developing a systematic planning and scheduling process.
Management of electrical/mechanical engineering projects would include– developing plans, budgets, writing AR’s, directing outside engineering and contractors, coordinating internal engineering, support personnel, developing construction schedules, purchasing equipment, training operators/maintainers, installing/troubleshooting/starting up equipment in order to support steel manufacturing operations continuous improvement efforts. Would work directly with all levels of Integrated Technicians to develop technician skilled resources utilized across the plant and plans, organizes, staffs, controls, directs Integrated Technicians responsible for maintaining and improving operations.
Responsibilities:
- Improve equipment and process reliability by analyzing complex reliability problems and determining cost-effective methods of correcting or improving the equipment within a limited time-frame. Application of Failure Analysis/Cause Maps and CI principals are critical in this area to ensure the best business decision is made when determining the method of repair.
- Increased efficiency of maintenance associates by providing a more structured work environment via the computerized Maintenance Management System (MAXIMO) that includes job orders with descriptive work scopes, job priorities, methods / procedures to implement, materials/special tools/equipment required to complete tasks, safety instructions/procedures, and technical resource requirements with estimated completion times. This efficiency improvement process is enhanced by the development of work standards and measures to track the performance of the maintainers and the reliability of the equipment.
- Job order schedule coordination with the Operating Schedule that minimizes planned and unplanned downtime; assigns jobs based on priority of repairs and individual associate skills; includes the use of contractors to supplement the base workforce or perform specialized repair tasks; assures timely completion of preventive and predictive jobs to optimize the equipment reliability.
- Responsible for major repair downturns/shutdowns performed to a specific budget and schedule.
- Communicates with Operations Management to determine maintenance needs.
- Communicates with the supplier's designate to plan the required resources and evaluates the effectiveness of the contracted workforce.
- Communicates on a frequent basis with Operations Management, Reliability Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, and reliability associates to determine job priorities and timing of implementation. This communication includes the development of future capital and expense budget items.
- Increase Steelmaking Productivity and Quality by meeting customer expectations in the completion of continuous improvement or Capital projects.
- Lead and manage projects to meet the desired goal, within required timeframe, and budget ranging from a few thousand dollars up to $5M. Complexities include what is described above plus fundamental understanding of the electrical engineering principles involved in a process to evaluate the ability of equipment and process to meet customer expectations, writing specifications for the purchase of equipment, guiding equipment engineering, procuring/performing the installation engineering, writing installation specs, selecting contractors, assuring compliance with all OSHA safety regulations in design and installation of equipment, basic understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, piping, civil, electrical components, sensors, process control, ergonomics, work flow and building principles for a complete facility.
- Maintain regular communication with the technicians, Managers & Engineering, develops training/development plan for technicians to ensure the success of all associates to their maximum potential
- Create and maintain a safe work environment, includes decisions on correct personnel protective equipment, operational practices, hourly associate activities and techniques, and refractory practices. Lead the efforts to improve the safety of this area.
- Direct supervisors and hourly personnel (production and maintenance) as necessary to accomplish department goals.
- Assist the operation/maintenance departments in case of emergencies such as injury to personnel, equipment failures, fires, and breakouts.
- Coordinate the efforts for the ongoing communication and plan execution between the operational and maintenance departments to assure world class equipment availability.
- Develop and provide training on new practices, processes, and equipment.
- Assists with transition of new hourly employees into and out of the department, including training on reliability, and maintenance techniques.
- Manage Predictive Maintenance Routs with Contactors and supply detailed job plan for remediation of anomalies focused on long term solutions.

- Management skills in maintenance activities of melt, refine and crane operations
- Ability to interpret predictive maintenance reports such as: Thermography, Vibration, Oil Analysis, Water Quality

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 12 years of experience in casting including rebuilds, increasing reliability, upgrades, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 12 years of experience in casting including rebuilds, increasing reliability, upgrades, etc. with 7 of those years in a management capacity.
- Master of Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with 10 years of experience in casting including rebuilds, increasing reliability, upgrades, etc. with 5 of those years in a management capacity.
