Purpose
The Shop Services Asset Professional II serves as the central coordinator for maintenance planning and scheduling activities within machine shop and fabrication operations. The role ensures equipment reliability, workforce efficiency, safe work execution, and uninterrupted manufacturing operations through detailed planning, proactive scheduling, backlog management, and cross-functional coordination.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed maintenance work plans for CNC machines, machining centers, lathes, mills, welding systems, cranes, compressors, hydraulic systems, and supporting assets.
- Define labor requirements, materials, spare parts, tooling, rigging, and contractor resources needed for safe and efficient execution.
- Create comprehensive work packages including procedures, drawings, OEM manuals, permits, lockout/tagout requirements, and technical documentation.
- Review completed work orders and update PM procedures, BOMs, and standard job plans to drive continuous improvement.
Scheduling and Resource Coordination
- Develop daily and weekly maintenance schedules aligned with production priorities and available labor capacity.
- Coordinate equipment downtime with production leadership and schedule preventive, predictive, corrective, and project work.
- Support major outages, shutdowns, equipment rebuilds, and contractor activities through structured planning meetings and post-outage reviews.
- Coordinate predictive maintenance activities such as vibration analysis, thermography, lubrication, ultrasonic inspections, and condition monitoring.
Work Planning and Backlog Management
- Convert approved maintenance requests into executable CMMS work orders with proper asset identification and documentation.
- Maintain a prioritized backlog of ready-to-execute work to improve schedule attainment and maintenance efficiency.
- Perform field walkdowns to validate scope, identify hazards, determine access requirements, and develop execution strategies.
- Support reliability initiatives by identifying recurring failures and recommending improvements that increase equipment availability and productivity.
Collaboration, Performance, and Procurement
- Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, Tooling, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.
- Track key performance indicators including safety, uptime, schedule compliance, PM completion, backlog health, maintenance cost, and OEE.
- Support reliability audits, maintenance assessments, and continuous improvement projects.
- Coordinate procurement of materials, fabricated components, contractor services, and replacement equipment.
- Ensure contractor work is planned, scheduled, and completed in accordance with safety and operational requirements.
Technical Skills
- Ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
- Working knowledge of CNC machining, fabrication equipment, welding operations, and industrial utilities.
- Working knowledge of Maximo or similar CMMS software, maintenance planning tools, and material handling systems.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED with a minimum 7 years of maintenance planning, reliability, machining, fabrication, supervision, or industrial manufacturing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, technology, or related degree with a minimum 4 years of maintenance planning, reliability, machining, fabrication, supervision, or industrial manufacturing experience.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, technology, or related degree with a minimum 2 years of maintenance planning, reliability, machining, fabrication, supervision, or industrial manufacturing experience.
