Purpose:

This role exists to create and coordinate the documentation and verification for assigned customers’ orders in an efficient and timely manner to meet demanding on time delivery and JIT production requirements. 

 

This position primarily structures routine domestic shipments for customers’ orders to minimize transportation costs and ensure customer satisfaction.  Maintain Customer Relationship Management through effective communication, timely feedback, and execution of shipment planning activities.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that orders are prepared and shipped in a timely manner to meet promised delivery dates following Metallus Standards.  Analyze daily the Shipping Open Order Status report & WIP system to advise the CRM Rep (customer care), customer, district sales office of issues that would delay shipments.
  • Responsible for maximizing load weights by strategizing w/ CRM’s on appropriate bundle weights while having a complete knowledge of lanes where heavy permits can be utilized in order to reduce costs and plant congestion.
  • Investigate order entry or operations errors before shipping the product to the customer.  Research and resolve inventory discrepancies that appear to be duplicates, such as BBG's to get orders completed to the customer and inventory cleaned up. Responsible to make sure all metallurgical, credit, customer, and overage/shortage releases are cleared before shipment is made.  
  • Work continuously with CRM’s to develop strategic shipping plans for light loads including but not limited to combination loads and research and analysis on future orders.
  • Effectively manage daily shipment audit process to mitigate risk of falsified financials, ensure SOX compliance and shipment controls to confirm that the right steel is being shipped to guarantee customer satisfaction.
  • Analyze cost and transit times, to select the most cost effective/ qualified contracted carrier by proper mode of transportation to make on time deliveries to Metallus customers and suppliers (Truckload, LTL, ocean, air, etc.)
  • Build and foster relationships with core carriers in order to achieve world class service levels as well as gain security during times of market shifts and expedite situations.
  • Provide analytics to management during the RFP process that will lead in the strategy of carrier lane awards
  • Contact customers and suppliers to coordinate delivery appointments, avoid transportation delays and ensure delivery requirements will be met to support JIT production.  
  • Continually analyze carrier performance including timeliness of deliveries and volume of incidents to determine carrier effectiveness & productivity.  Ensure that all carrier issues are reported and logged into the internal tracking mechanism for carrier scorecards. 
  • Confirm orders are shipped with proper regard to blocking, tagging, and loading instructions.  Provides consultation and problem solving of customer complaints related to administrative errors.
  • Proactively monitor & manage the active BOL report to identify orders that can be shipped versus stored.  Coordinate with CRM’s and operations for final execution on storage material.
  • Accountable for the below KPI’s that will be utilized in annual performance appraisal, progress reported out monthly in team meetings.
    • Fill the truck initiatives 
    • Number of days material is on BOL’s prior to be shipped
    • Logistics savings targets 
  • Responsible for execution of rail logistics including load building, equipment inventory, communication with rail service providers and interaction with their portals.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma with at least 3 years of experience in supply chain, manufacturing, or shipping/logistics.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree in Business or related field with experience in supply chain, manufacturing, or shipping/logistics preferred.
