Purpose:

This position exists to provide expert level metallurgical knowledge to direct the technical aspects of primary, finishing, and/or laboratory processes within all of the Metallus' tubing and bar manufacturing areas.  In addition, this position has technical oversight for the metallurgical testing and metallurgical approval for all customer orders prior to shipment in the area of expertise.  This position is also responsible to conduct high levels of process analyses and continuous improvement project work in the manufacturing areas of concern. Additionally, this position exists to provide technical/metallurgical representation for Metallus in dealing with external customers, suppliers, and internal customers. This position has the opportunity to work in any area within the quality organization.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable to review all applicable metallurgical test results for all heats/orders and make determination(when needed) as to the suitability for application or conformance to specification.
  • Accountable to review and approve all changes to operating procedures in primary, finishing and/or laboratory operating areas.
  • Develop and maintain process metallurgical standards to be used throughout all of relevant manufacturing operations and to be used for communication of manufacturing instructions for external contractors who perform finishing, heat treatment and inspection operations on Metallus steel products.
  • Manage and/or lead major continuous improvement projects that lead to significant process improvements or cost reductions in bar and tube manufacturing operations.
  • Provide expert metallurgical and technical advise/support to all steel operations, supply chain, commercial, reliability and direct customers when requested as part of ongoing CI, development, or problem solving efforts.
  • Employ high levels of analysis techniques on process data to make advances or changes in manufacturing processes that result in measurable cost, product quality, and on-time delivery improvements.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, or Metallurgy with quality engineering or manufacturing engineering experience preferred.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, or Metallurgy with a Metallus internship in engineering or manufacturing.
