Purpose

This position leads the management of production planning for various manufacturing assets in Canton, focused on service level excellence, optimizing working capital efficiencies, and minimizing operating costs. Oversees the development, preparation, and maintenance of production schedules to guide the production activities and resources to achieve volume, profit, and inventory objectives. Monitors production progress and develops revised schedules responsive to changes in material flow, priorities, constraints, and opportunities. Collaborates and communicates with Operations Leadership and all supporting stakeholders to develop effective planning methodologies and best practices.

 

This role may also be required to occasionally fulfill any of the various responsibilities of team members.  This includes but is not limited to daily tasks associated with scheduling functions, the close management of WIP inventory, and CI involving specific tactics to improve on-time delivery.

 

The Manager and its team directly impact key business metrics such as ATS, SOTIF, Schedule Adherence, On-time Launch, Inventory Days, Turns, Past Due, and Working Capital.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage Planning and Scheduling team members responsible for modeling and simulating process path loading and alternatives for both bar and tube product to determine best operating schedules to maximizing throughput, while minimizing overall working capital and operating cost
  • Lead day-to-day tactical production control planning, scheduling, flow of materials, and order management for area of responsibility. Provide production outlook for short and mid-term horizons to ensure efficient planning and operations. Develop the weekly schedule for hourly workforce. Partner with the Operations Team to ensure plan execution to meet designated KPI metrics of service levels, productivity targets, and cost initiatives.
  • Leverage and maximize systems and planning tools to ensure business goals are met around minimizing inventory, maximizing efficiency, and customer satisfaction measured by SOTIF, Schedule Adherence, On-time Launch, and Past Due.
  • Support logistics & Shipping activities from Canton Facilities by aligning production plans to minimize delays and enable flawless delivery of products from melt to customer.
  • Apply appropriate methodologies, monitor performance to the plan, and take proactive action to solve problems and mitigate risk with permanent corrective actions as a focus. Manage multiple projects and competing priorities. Analyze processes and suggest changes to increase efficiency and enhance profitable operations while maintaining a safe work environment. Display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards achieving established business metrics.
  • Assist as necessary in any area of Supply Chain Planning and data analysis as requested. Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting to eliminate disruption of the fulfilment of committed delivery.
  • Supply accurate lead-time control in alignment with Capacity Planning evaluations and established processing times. Minimize and monitor re-promise orders and continuously investigate root cause.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to identify capacity constraints, determine material availability, reduce lead times, and exceed customer expectations. Displaying capability and urgency in addressing expedited requirements and reprioritization, demonstrating ownership and accountability.
  • Participate and prepare relevant content for pre-SIOP cadence & co-SIOP process.
  • Position fills in for Sr. Manager, Production Planning and Scheduling in case of absence and represents the team (including Met Lab) while working with manufacturing and commercial team leadership.
  • Collaborate with other managers on improving bench strength and successors within Supply Chain Planning, Logistics, and MC group.  Provide coaching and mentorship to associates at different stages of leadership pipeline and career development, including, new managers within Supply Planning team and new talent that joins Supply Chain organization.
  • Engage at all levels of the organization with the ability to work across silos to communicate common goals, solicit information, and gain consensus and buy-in.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, supply chain, engineering, or related with 12 years of experience in manufacturing or supply chain.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in business, supply chain, engineering, or related with 10 years of experience in thermal treat, demand planning, or order fulfillment.
