Purpose
Steel manufacturing is an extremely asset intensive business. Over one hundred million dollars are spent each year maintaining our steel manufacturing assets. This key position is required to reduce these costs. These positions play an essential role in efficiently utilizing our maintenance and contractor workforces. The role of the Planner/Scheduler is to improve work force effectiveness and work quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays by proactively planning and coordination of manpower, parts and material, and equipment access. The position focuses on future work that has not been started in order to provide manufacturing an adequate amount of work backlog that is planned, approved, and ready to execute. Use of personal experience and closed backlog to develop work plans aimed at avoiding potential work delays and quality or safety problems. Scheduling aspects of the position load, the scheduled labor hours, and provide the work force sufficient assignments for their shifts.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing Maximo service requests and reviewing all work requests to see if the job should be done, should be planned, or added to other existing work plans.
- Creates work orders from service requests and ensures proper assets are charged on work orders in Maximo.
- Analyzes job requirements by traveling to job sites to evaluate necessary repairs.
- Determines the material list required to complete the work by reviewing the bill of materials and engineering drawings.
- Determines any special equipment and estimates the labor needs and hours for efficiently executing the work.
- Gathers information needed for jobs such as: blueprints, lists of tools, and parts, and utilizes them to develop work and job plans and organize them in task forms, by listing the steps to complete the job.
- Responsible for putting the plan along with special work instructions, engineering drawings, permits, and other pertinent information in a work package or a work order attachment.
- Identify revisions needed on preventative maintenance, job plans, and work instructions.
- Identifies the appropriate manpower, contracted services, trade and craft, and technical assistance required to complete the planned work, repair, or equipment modifications.
- Responsible for working with other employees i.e., Subject Matter Experts to identify problems with spare parts and bill of materials, assets, and work procedures and following up to see that they are corrected.
- Responsible for the scheduling functions of work orders. Will serve as the back-up to primary scheduling assignments and share responsibilities as assigned.
- Schedules daily in scheduling tools their assigned area of responsibility.
- Keeps outage calendar up to date.
- Conducts pre-outage meetings and post-outage assessments.
- Responsible for supporting all plant key performance indicators, including but not limited to: employee health safety, quality, productivity, continuous improvement, and strategic planning.
- Keep drawing system up to date by submitting changes to engineering as needed.
- Performs layered process audits monthly.

Technical Skills
- Industrial maintenance experience with an exposure to work planning and work order prioritization techniques
- Ability to read and understand engineered drawings
- Prior Maximo or other Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Trained on industrial systems: hydraulics, pneumatics, programmable logic controllers, motor drives, power distribution
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Functional experience on equipment assemblies and systems engineering
- Understanding of contracted services
- Experience in union trades and BLA rules
Minimum Qualifications
- High School/GED with a minimum 7 years of craftsmanship or supervisor experience in planning and scheduling work or experience with CMMS systems for work orders
- Associate's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, technology, or related with a minimum 4 years of craftsmanship or supervisor experience in planning and scheduling work or experience with CMMS systems for work orders
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, technology, or related with a minimum 2 years of craftsmanship or supervisor experience in planning and scheduling work or experience with CMMS systems for work orders.
