Purpose
This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the dispatching, movement, and shipment of products to the customers, internal material movement, material storage and delivery needs for continuous rotating crew operations of the Gambrinus, Harrison, and Faircrest Steel Plants. This position will coordinate personnel issues such as crew scheduling, department safety, training needs and human resource issues such as discipline, vacation coverage and medical problems. The Supervisor of Logistics is also responsible for off-shift direction of maintenance personnel to reduce equipment cost and provide reliable equipment for all users. This position must continually improve shipments, service and reduce associated cost of service while maintaining safety as a top priority. Required to work overtime, rotating shifts/ schedules, or weekends as per business needs.
Responsibilities
- Safety and Environmental - Maintain a safe and environmentally correct workplace by enforcing the company and plant safety and environmental rules and policies, ensuring that associates are always wearing the required personal protective equipment, providing prompt and clear communications, providing training as needed and required, performing regular workplace audits, and involving all associates. Will be the first responder to all environmental incidents in logistics, providing immediate supervision and contacting the required personnel in a timely manner while filling out the appropriate reports. Will also perform investigations for safety incidents and near-miss incidents.
- Supervision/Leadership - provide direct and indirect supervision and leadership to any or all the departments in logistics operations such as material movement, shipping, and the heavy equipment repair shop. This includes planning, scheduling, and executing standard and non-standard work on any shift. Must have effective use of relevant information systems to improve the completion of scheduled and unscheduled work in the required time frame.
- Communications - Develop a good relationship with plant supervision to promote timely and clear communications regarding operational issues. Communication may relate to problem solving related to shipments, internal service, lost loads, delays, mixed steel, and inventory integrity.
- Elimination of mixed steel

- Execution of all transportation audits
- Associate Development and Training - Facilitate, deliver, and cross train associates with new and additional training as needed including the hourly dispatchers.
- Cost - Effective use of manpower and equipment in a dynamic environment. Submit cost savings ideas and work to reduce the overall cost to the business.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 7 years of experience in supervising, logistics, manufacturing, or related.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Degree in business management, technology or related with 4 years of experience in supervising, logistics, manufacturing, or related.
- Bachelor’s Degree in business management, technology or related with 2 years of experience in supervising, logistics, manufacturing, or related.
