Purpose

The Manager in this role will incorporate engineering expertise to provide technical oversight to quotes, specification reviews, item creation/management, and technical related activities for customer orders for the entire organization. Activities include managing a staff of engineers and analysts, providing technical decision-making support to the organization, lead continuous improvement efforts and optimization initiatives, and foster culture that embodies Metallus’ 3C2F cultural framework.  Additionally, the Manger will collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand future state product offering strategies and sales directives to ensure front-end process alignment.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage a staff of engineers and analysts to define product characteristics, answer technical customer inquiries, conduct thorough metallurgical/dimensional analysis of customer and industry specifications, create/manage new items, and assist with capability evaluations. 
  • Provide technical decision-making support to Sales, Manufacturing, Application Development/New Business Development, Product Management, and Internal/External Customers.  This activity includes development of new business, the analysis of strategic manufacturing tactics, and complete technical evaluation customer requirements to establish risk and the company's capability to produce.
  • Collaboratively develop new front-end processes with internal stakeholders in support of Metallus’ multi-metal strategy, new product offerings, and sale directives.
  • Standardize inquiry/quotation processes for the procurement of external services, eliminate inefficiencies, and reduce negative impact on the overall turn-around time. 
  • Support the resolution of customer claims through root cause analysis and drive implementation of robust corrective actions.
  • Lead capability focused meetings with internal and external customers, convey technically sound data stories to non-technical audiences.
  • Provide strong technical skills and able to work with large datasets to assist the organization in the execution of ad hoc data analytics.
  • Foster a culture to drive continuous improvement with an emphasis on process efficiencies and front-end business applications, including championing project opportunities and transformational initiatives.
  • Engage at all levels of the organization with the ability to work across silos to communicate common goals, solicit information, and gain consensus and buy-in.
  • Lead capability focused meetings/projects with internal (manufacturing and commercial) partners and be able to convey technically sound data stories to non-technical audiences.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand design critical customer requirements, identify cost improvement opportunities, and data analytics. Displaying capability and urgency in addressing expedited requirements and reprioritization, demonstrating ownership and accountability.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Material Science, Engineering, or a related field with at least 12 years of experience in steel industry processes and products.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Material Science, Engineering, or Business with at least 10 years of experience in steel industry processes and products.
