Purpose
The Customer Requirement Engineer conducts detailed technical assessments of Metallus’ capability to produce through comprehensive reviews of customer’s purchase order requirements and requests for quote. Activities include capability evaluations of D365 opportunities, the management of technical inquiries, transfer order management, and ad hoc capability assessments. The Engineer works closely with internal stakeholders including Inside and Outside Sales, Customer Relationship Management, Product Management, Metallurgical Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Manage D365 opportunities to establish existing vs. new product capability.
- Conduct complete metallurgical, dimensional, and/or manufacturing analysis of customer inquiries to establish the company's ability to meet the customer’s specified requirements.
- Assist the organization with ad hoc data capability assessments through the management of the “Quotes” inbox.
- Evaluate specification requests to ensure all relevant information has been provided. When necessary, collaboratively work with relevant groups to gather missing information prior to specification submittal.
- Oversee the inquiry queueing structure to optimizing flow through the inquiry process.
- Perform technical reviews and approvals of order-to-order transfer requests; including Virtual Mill transfers.
- Manage the technical review of recertification requests, track submitted requests and evaluate trends.
- Execute order/item change request to ensure master data integrity.
- Leverage best practices and identify opportunities to drive continuous improvement with an emphasis on process efficiencies, knowledge transfer, and front-end business applications.
- Engage at all levels of the organization with the ability to work across silos to communicate common goals, solicit information, and gain consensus and buy-in.
Technical Skills
- A basic understanding and knowledge of the technical and metallurgical aspects of all phases of steel operations from melting through finishing.
- Solid communication skills due to the high degree of interaction with marketing, operating, scheduling and other technical groups.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of the Company’s computer information systems due to the information data intensive nature of the position.

Minimum Qualifications
- Associates Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with at least 2 years of experience in steel industry processes and products.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with at least 2 years of experience in steel industry processes and products.
- Masters Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with experience in steel industry processes and products preferred.
