Purpose
This position plays a key role in the accounting and reporting of the financial statements (Profit & Loss, and Balance Sheet) for Metallus Inc. in accordance with US GAAP. These statements are a major component of the Metallus Consolidated Financial Statements which are distributed to senior management, shareholders, and governmental agencies. This role requires a thorough understanding of US GAAP, and a focus on continuous improvement. Problem solving and initiative, with a strong desire to analyze, investigate, and resolve, are essential elements for success in this position.
Responsibilities
- Calculate and generate monthly journal entries in accordance with US GAAP, including but not limited to:
- payroll, including being a liaison between accounting and payroll
- various accruals
- medical accrual and related activities
- lead quarterly review meetings for accruals.
- Maintain a complete and accurate ledger of certain legal entities, including but not limited to completing all accounting responsibilities associated with monthly closing, account reconciliations, and financial statement analysis.
- Have account reconciliations and variances completed in a timely manner, with effective analysis, support, follow-up, and resolution of issues. This role will have responsibility to account for all payroll transactions.
- Assist with the monthly FCC closing and consolidation of the financial statements including booking standard monthly FCC entries, reviewing entities, and reporting requirements.
- Compliance with SOX requirements & successful audits, including assessments by both internal & external auditors.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related; with at least 7 years of experience in accounting, problem solving, and analyzing data
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related; with at least 9 years of experience in accounting, problem solving, and analyzing data
Technical/Functional Skills
- Strong communication (written & verbal) and analytical skills
- Strong understanding of US GAAP
- Strong accounting, analytical, and variance analysis skills
- Microsoft Office skills with an emphasis on Excel (pivot tables, data analysis, reporting)
- Ability to collaborate within and across teams
